Active Recovery and GPP for Powerlifters

Post by BigRepNation88 »

General Physical Preparedness (GPP) is often overlooked by powerlifters who only want to squat, bench, and deadlift. Adding active recovery days with sled drags, light carries, and steady-state cardio can actually improve your recovery by increasing blood flow and work capacity. It makes the heavy sessions feel easier because your baseline fitness is higher. What do your GPP days look like?

I do 20 minutes of incline walking and some light kettlebell swings. Just enough to get a sweat without being tired.

Is swimming a good GPP activity or is it too much on the shoulders?

Swimming is great for the joints but can be hard if you have bad shoulder mobility already. Try a stationary bike if in doubt.
