Velocity Based Training (VBT) Devices

Post by IronBearRU »

Is anyone using linear position transducers or accelerometer units to manage auto-regulation? Worth the money?

Absolutely. I use a RepOne unit. Data does not lie. It completely removes the ego from my training sessions.

I prefer the OpenBarbell open-source lineage devices. Simple, accurate string tracking is supreme.

Camera-based phone apps have gotten surprisingly decent lately if you do not want to buy hardware yet.

The problem with apps is bad lighting in home gyms throws off the tracking completely.

How do you structure your drop-off thresholds using velocity?

When mean concentric velocity drops by 10% from my baseline first set, the work group is done.

For strength work, I pull the plug at a 15% drop. For hypertrophy blocks, you can push down to a 30% drop.

Yes, fatigue management is the biggest benefit. Prevents overtraining injuries before they happen.

This sounds incredibly systematic. Does it become annoying to clip to the bar every single set?
