What are some good beginner lifting shoes?
Can I just use my running shoes for squats?

Running shoes are too squishy for squats. Try flat shoes.

Converse Chuck Taylors are classic and cheap.

Barefoot or socks-only is an option if your gym allows it.

If you want to spend more, Metcons are decent hybrids.
